Be part of this day-long convo for emerging arts leaders from throughout the state. Join your colleagues from Wisconsin’s arts world to increase your leadership skills, learn about exciting new ideas and useful resources, and grow your statewide network of next generation arts leaders.
The Summit is part of a national movement and conversation about the arts: during October’s National Arts and Humanities Month, Arts Wisconsin, FoRCE and the Wisconsin Arts Board are partnering with Americans for the Arts, the national service organization for the arts, to host this creative conversation for Wisconsin.
- 9:30 am: Registration opens, with coffee and conversation
- 10 am: Summit begins! Special guest: Genyne Edwards, Milwaukee creative entrepreneur and former Deputy Secretary, Wisconsin Department of Tourism
- 10:30 am: Networking and introduction conversation
- 11 am: Envisioning the future - a working session on community cultural development: learn how to leverage arts and cultural assets in building community and economic development.
- 12 noon: Lunch and more networking
- 12:30 pm: Mentoring for Wisconsin’s Emerging Arts Leaders: learn more about exciting ways to help you benefit from your colleagues and peers’ expertise and perspective!
- 1 pm: Get political-get the skinny on advocacy and action for the 2008 elections (not just Presidential, but legislative, too), and the upcoming campaign to increase state government’s investment in the arts, with Arts Wisconsin and the Wisconsin Arts Board.
- 2 pm: Take a break-more networking and relaxing!
- 2:30 pm: Guide research: be a part of an exciting new study conducted by FoRCE in partnership with Brain Reactions of Madison regarding participation in the arts by Gen X and Y'ers – and be a part of the solution as well!
- 3:30 pm Wrap up the day's activities
- 4 pm: End-and on to social event (more info to follow)

Who should attend?
This day- long event specifically targets professionals who are new to
the field, generally less than five years, or who are under the age of
35, but also people from every age range and demographic group to participate.
The only requirement is that emerging arts leaders have the desire to
enhance their leadership capacity and the drive to develop innovative,
effective, and responsible management practices. This can include people
in the following realms:
- Arts administrators
- Artists
- Entrepreneurs
- People who work for arts businesses and nonprofit organizations
- People who use the arts and creativity in their work and in their daily lives.
- When: Friday, October 12, 2007, 10 am – 3 pm
- Where: The Foundation on Retaining Creative Energy (FoRCE) headquarters and gallery, 825 East Johnson Street, Madison (click here fora map and directions). FoRCE is a Madison nonprofit that is all about art and community.
- Cost: $25, includes all activities, coffee, lunch and snacks, payable at the door
- After-hang: There are plans in the works for an evening on the town after the Summit, involving some of Madison’s most exciting cultural opportunities. Please stay in town on Friday for a social event. More info to follow as we get closer to the Summit.
