Arts in the Community Awards 2010

Presented by Arts Wisconsin in partnership with the League of Wisconsin Municipalities and Wisconsin Towns Association

Application form

Arts Wisconsin seeks nominations for the 2010 Arts in the Community Awards, honoring civic leaders who have encouraged and supported innovative approaches to using the arts to build and sustain vibrant, healthy, creative communities.

Arts Wisconsin is particularly interested in honoring elected and civic leaders- demonstrating an overall commitment to supporting the arts and partnering with the local arts community to positively impact the lives of all citizens.

The awards are presented by Arts Wisconsin in partnership with the League of Wisconsin Municipalities and Wisconsin Towns Association .

The awards will be presented to honorees at their affiliated statewide service or advocacy association conferences, taking place in fall 2010. At least two awards can be made each year, to a village, town and city with over 20,000 population and under 20,000 population. Additional awards may be given at the direction of the review committee.

Eligibility:
• Elected officials, civic leaders, or leaders of agencies, businesses or nonprofit organizations may be nominated by individuals, nonprofit organizations, agencies or businesses.
• Your village, town or city must be affiliated with the League of Wisconsin Municipalities or Wisconsin Towns Association (Arts Wisconsin will verify this information after nomination is submitted.)
• Communities are eligible for one award in a ten-year time period.

Review Criteria:
• Arts Wisconsin seeks to recognize a demonstrable, ongoing commitment to the arts by business and government leaders, agencies and organizations.
• Programs, projects or other endeavors should be community-based and/or community-oriented, with tangible community impact.
• Nominees must have made a significant contribution to the program in terms of time (their own or organizing others), advocacy, philanthropic contributions or other forms of assistance.
• Nominee’s involvement must have taken place within the last 5 years (August 15, 2004- August 15, 2009).
• Nominee’s involvement should be shown to have helped the program to realize its community impact goals.

Review and Award Process:
• Applications are due at the Arts Wisconsin office by August 1, 2010. Supplemental materials will be accepted until August 15, 2010.
• Arts Wisconsin staff will screen nominations to verify eligibility.
• A committee convened by the staff and board of directors of Arts Wisconsin will be responsible for the final selection.
• Winners will be notified by September 1, 2010.
• Award presentations will take place in fall 2010:

o League of Wisconsin Municipalities: during the League’s 112th Annual Conference, October 13-15, 2010, at the Marriott West, Middleton, WI. The award will be presented at the Opening General Session , October 13, 2010, 1:30 p.m.
o Wisconsin Towns Association (WTA): during WTA’s annual conference, Sunday, October 3-Wednesday, October 6, at the La Crosse Convention Center, La Crosse, WI. Award to be presented Tuesday evening, October 5, 2010, at the WTA awards banquet.

Award Recognition
• A plaque will be presented, suitable for display in any public venue.
• Recognition during the annual conference of the League of Wisconsin Municipalities and Wisconsin Towns Association (depending on honored community’s affiliation)
• Additional recognition at Arts Wisconsin’s annual Arts Day in March 2011.
• Featured in print and email publications and websites of Arts Wisconsin and affiliated statewide organization.

Selection Process:
Arts Wisconsin staff will screen for eligibility based on the application information outlined above. A committee convened by the board of directors of Arts Wisconsin, with input from the League of Wisconsin Municipalities, Wisconsin Alliance of Cities, and Wisconsin Towns Association, will be responsible for the final selection. Communities are eligible for only one award in a ten-year time period.

Application deadline: received at the Arts Wisconsin office by August 1, 2010 (supplemental materials must be received by August 15, 2010). Winners will be notified by September 1, 2010.
